"The Changemakers" Make an Impact

Author Bio: Dustin is autistic and loves to invest in others, so starting The Changemakers was a natural fit for him. He enjoys spending time with friends, going out to eat, and helping others in any way he can. He played on the Unified Varsity football team at Elkhart Memorial and currently works at Martin’s Super Market.

My name is Dustin Ellsworth and I am the president of an organization called The Changemakers.

This group came from an idea I had years ago. I wanted there to be a place for people with autism and similar disabilities to all come together to have fun and feel accepted.

Finally, in 2021, The Changemakers became an official group at Corvilla.

We enjoy finding opportunities to be involved with the community and getting together for trips, movies, game nights, and more. One of our goals is to expand and bring in more members, with the intent of getting a clubhouse.

I also work with Corvilla’s Planning Committee and help plan year-round events. This is another opportunity for The Changemakers to be active in our community. On July 30 at Corvilla in Granger, we are hosting a car wash and then also helping with Corvilla’s Fourth of July Celebration scheduled for July 14.

As changemakers, my friends Liam and Logan and I believe it’s important for other individuals with disabilities to feel like they can advocate for themselves. I’ve learned a lot about the different resources offered to people with disabilities in Elkhart and St. Joe County and I’m always willing to give advice or suggestions when someone needs it.

Together, we can make a difference in each other's lives and the community.

As leaders of The Changemakers, Dustin and Liam bring individuals with disabilities together for activities at Corvilla and in the community, creating a fun environment where everyone is accepted.
