Embrace Corvilla

Join us as we embrace 60 years of Corvilla

Every month we will be embracing Corvilla by highlighting one thing that makes us great. From compassion to Connections Day Program, we will be showcasing some of what makes Corvilla unique! Our hope is that you learn more about who we are and celebrate with us as we reflect back and thrive forward.

Embracing Compassion

Compassion is at the core of what we do here at Corvilla. Recognizing the full value of individuals with disabilities, we believe that all people, regardless of their abilities, can embrace who they are and define their own future. With this said, we lead with compassion to get ourselves to that place. Dignity and respect go hand in hand as we encourage choice and opportunity and that can't be done without compassion. Compassion just makes lives better.

We believe that all people, regardless of their abilities, can embrace who they are and define their own future.

Meet Katy, Associate Director of Employment Services and Employee of the Year, someone who embraces compassion on a daily basis. Katy began her journey with Corvilla in June of 2015 with a lot of experience and a vision to work alongside people with disabilities. She is especially passionate about working side by side with consumers and employers through the hiring process. "If someone has the desire to work, they should be given the opportunity to try no matter the barrier.", says Katy, "Corvilla focuses on what people CAN DO and not what they can’t do. We take on the most challenging cases and just focus on the Client’s success and making sure they are successful."

Director of Employment Services Lisa Kay works closely with Katy and she had only positive things to say, "Katy’s vision is to ensure that anyone, regardless of the significance of their disability, has the opportunity to work if that is what they would like to do. I have never witnessed the level of passion, commitment and advocacy for our clients that is displayed by Katy. She does this tirelessly every day, for every client she serves. She is the voice for those who cannot articulate their goals and dreams, she is the visionary for parents who have been told since childhood, that their son or daughter will not live a normal life, will not hold a job or live independently. Katy will not accept this as truth and gives those we serve and their parents the hope they can achieve these things and then methodically goes about making it happen for them."

Lisa explains that compassion means sympathetic, pity and concern for the suffering or misfortune of others and that describes Katy. "I really see this when one of her co-workers are going through a rough time," Lisa further explains, "When Katy learns of misfortune of her co-workers, she is the first to rally the team, cook, raise money, whatever it takes to make the person feel supported and loved." The same goes for her consumers, she does not feel sorry for clients and doesn't want anyone to pity them, she wants to "empower them and ensure everyone sees their value and contribution to the workforce!" Lisa ends by saying, "She is a person who embodies the words love and generosity and most importantly, she models it everyday, in every situation." We here at Corvilla embrace compassion as a way of life, just like Katy.

A special thanks to Lisa Kay for contributing.
